DOPPIO
DOPPIO is a folk meets singer-songwriter duo that formed in 2009 between members Tim and Brittany Elizabeth Cretella. They recently released an upbeat music video with a powerful message. The song opens with a guitar that is reminiscent of Shakey Graves' style, building a much a welcomed rapport with my ears. Immediately after, the lyrics take the spotlight. The song reads vaguely similar to the narrative quality that is best associated with Bob Dylan, while incorporating sub

JUNE GLOOM
June Gloom's latest album Fake Problems does not disappoint all the surf music lovers who also happen to gravitate toward more melancholy melodies. Many gems stand out within this nine track album from the D.C. based artist, but, in typical GrizzlyGround fashion, I will keep it short. The opening track "Get Free" does a great job of introducing the album. It starts off with an inaudible conversation, which immediately creates a nostalgic atmosphere before transitioning into a

BROKEN BEAK
This is GrizzlyGround’s first double review. Both Christian and Becca reviewed this album to give two separate opinions on Some Nerve by Broken Beak. They didn't consult each other much before writing their own opinions aside from touching base to see if they both liked the album or not. Becca's Take I tried to listen to this album, like I often try to do, in one long listen for the first time. I then listen to the album on repeat for the remainder of the week to get a feel f

THIS IS POINTLESS
This is Pointless is a punk-emo band based in Boston, with their newest EP drop And we ain’t even drunk yet. The first song on their EP is “Red Ring”, a chill song with raw vocals and exciting riffs, a good road map for the rest of the EP. If you’re a lover of games like me, you’ll know the song is an homage to video games, with the title referencing the ‘red ring of death’ commonly occurring in Xbox 360s. An upbeat riff starts off the song as the lead singer laments of his f

It's that time of year. We are at that coveted halfway point in 2016, so we decided to each pick five of our top albums of the year so far. SHELF LIFE
Shelf Life is an acoustic indie rock artist from Philly, who recently released Alright, Okayyy on June 28, 2016. The album features many unique, yet cohesive sounds. Songs vary from more psychedelic instrumentals like “Adult Swim Bumper” to lo-fi, dreamy tracks like “Ybba Rof” to more raw acoustic tunes such as “Unhealthy”. My favorite song off of the album is “Mortal Bus Boy". Ironically enough, I listened to this song on the bus as I made my way through the city in the rain

EVAN BUTTON
I’d like to start off by saying that Evan Button’s music is not new to me. I’ve been following his work for quite a while now. However, Evan's style on his most recent album achieved by mixing an acoustic, singer-songwriter vibe with dashes of reggae and hints of blues has progressed significantly since I first listened to his music. I felt myself transport out of the city and onto a beach as I listened. The eighteen year old Virginia Beach artist, Evan Button, released his l

JANE WANES
Philly based artist Jane Wanes recently released pancake on June 27, 2016, which features four raw lo-fi, experimental tracks. The first song “Nowah” is the longest song featured and is easily my favorite of the bunch. I’m a sucker for lyrics and this song tells an interesting narrative about a person named Nowah. The quirky lyrics are contrasted by a lingering melancholy vibe. “Nowah” also paints a vivid picture through use of relatable details such as Nowah’s dimples, which

TOTAL BUMMER
Total Bummer’s self-titled EP released on June 23, 2016 is the first effort from this Atlanta, Georgia punk/pop-punk band. Clocking in at just under 8 minutes, these three introductory tracks speed through and have fun while doing it. The EP opens with “Prozac and Caffeine,” which immediately pushes you into a sweaty, circle pit. The song feels like a college anthem for someone who really wants to drop out. The lyrics are charmingly self-deprecating-- not whiny. The writer se
